Stalling Because You Feel Afraid?

How To Move Forward

Yesterday, I did something that scared the crap out of me - I made an investment in the future of my business. I think I must have had the program website open on my computer for two days, hoping to muster the courage to enter my credit card information. I have not spent this amount of money on my business, nor on myself, in recent memory. It's the type of investment that dents your savings account - you feel me?

All the fears run through my head: What if I invest in myself and I fail anyhow? What if I never earn any more money again? What if this doesn't work and I resent the choice I made?

As I'm staring at the screen, trying to overcome my visceral reaction of spending this money to invest in creating my future self and future business, my husband comes into my office. Now, he's on board with my investment and he literally stands behind me and tells me to just click the payment button. (God love that man!)

Usually we think that brave people have no fear. The truth is that they are intimate with fear. ~Pema Chodron

The truth is that I'm always running a little bit scared. Do you feel this way? Is there something you really want to do or ask for, a leap you want to take, but fear is holding you back?

Sometimes, people assume that since I had the guts to call off a wedding or leap from Corporate America to become an entrepreneur that I must be fearless. NOT TRUE.

I'm learning to transform my relationship with fear. You can, too. Here are some questions I ask myself when I desire something, but fear is in my way:

  1. Does this move me toward the life I want to create?

  2. Does this align with my values?

  3. What about intuition - does this feel of peace or chaos? (Remember, moving through the “right” fear won't cause harm to yourself or others.)

  4. If the answers to 1-3 are a “yes” - take action on your smallest, bravest next step.

Notice who you are admiring today in your life - do you believe he or she is fearless? What if she is actually full of fear, but choosing to respect it, reframe it, and change her relationship with it by moving forward anyhow?
