My TEDx Talk Is Live! + a tool kit for you

If you remember way back to last November, I shared some of my TEDx talk journey, including the bummer of a moment when I realized that I forgot one of my lines that I thought would bring some humor to my talk. The line was:
“Advice tends to age as well as sunscreen recommendations from the 1900s.....”
Forgotten lines aside, the talk is finally live and I’m so excited to see that it was chosen as an “Editor’s Pick” - a distinction I’ve learned that goes to less than 1% of TEDx talks given.
So what’s this thing about advice?
How often have you put someone on pedestal, thinking that because they have a higher title, more experience or more charisma than you, then they must know best? And there’s no room for your insights or expertise?
So, you take their advice and silence your insights and intuition. You go along to get along. You underestimate yourself and your abilities.
I call this the “pedestal problem."
In this talk, I share my experiences with the pedestal problem in my own career, and how this hinders our leadership potential. I highlight also how the pedestal problem can turn leaders into brilliant jerks, leading to dysfunction.
However, I don’t give you advice to fix it because, well….
But if you take a listen, you’ll learn three questions you can ask yourself so you can stop underestimating yourself and fulfill your full leadership potential.
I’ve love for you to check it out and share it with someone who it might love to hear this message, too.
PS: As it serendipitously turns out, I shared a little wisdom from the great philosopher, Mariah Carey, who also released her new album on the same day my talk went live. You should at least go watch and hear what that's all about :)
PUT THIS TALK INTO ACTION
If you've been around here long enough, you know I LOVE tools and practical ways to bring things to life and put ideas into action. So, if you loved this talk and feel like your team or coworkers would love it, too, I made a discussion guide to help you implement the concepts in the talk in your workplace. Watch, share and have some fun with it! I hope it makes a positive impact in your work and life.
